Trip Organization
Nahanni River - 2004

It's time to get seriously organized... and for me (as with many things for me) that means making a website. Any relevant details that you would like everyone to keep in their mind should be posted here.

Important Emails - Continuous Thread

Hi Mark,

1) I have hired 12 paddles for the trip (i.e., one each and one spare in
each boat). What size do you prefer? I requested six 60", four 57", and
two 54" and guessed that that will allow everybody to paddle their chosen
length, but we can probably change this mix when we pick up the gear.

2) The boats come with spray decks (which is very unusual here for rentals),
so I'm guessing that they will be well set up with knee pads, but I will
check.

3) I'll also ask about renting bear deterrent stuff.

Cheers,

Miles

Hi Miles,

Just wanted to check a couple of things

1) that you have hired a paddle for me from the outfitter. Also do you need
to know paddle size
or is it just pot luck on the day ?

2) Do the boats come with foam glued in to knee on ? If not are we allowed
to glue in foam ?

3) I have heard that some outfitters hire out bear mace / bear bangers and
will take them back again if unused. was told this was cheaper than buying
from a camping shop. would you be able to check with the outfitter ?

thanks
Mark

Sorry for being out of commission for the past while and slacking on e-mail. But not to worry about our food for the trip... I have been thinking about it and have come up with some general meal ideas that hopefully meets everyone's tastes. Except for Ryan's desire to eat my hiking boots which are pretty nasty!

Take a look at the following and let me know if you have any big objections or new ideas for some other meals. I think that we'll have to rotate through a few of the meals over the trip and may have some more than once. We'll try to eat as much fresh food as possible in the first couple of days. Keep in mind that we plan to dehydrate most of these meals and there also needs to be a veggie option (except for the chicken dishes).

Breakfast:
- pancakes
- granola
- oatmeal (preferably real and not instant)
- dried fruit to add to any of the dishes
- scrambled eggs
- bacon (maybe for the first couple of days only)
- bannock

Appetizers:
- soup
- smoked oysters, mussels, salmon
- cheese
- crackers
- bannock

Dinners:
- pita pizzas (with meat and/or veggies)
- chilli (beef and tvp* versions)
- fettuccine with carbonara sauce (with bacon or smoked salmon)
- rotini with tomato sauce (with tvp and veggies)
- chicken korma curry (with rice)
- linguine with pesto (with pine nuts and veggies)
- thai red curry chicken (with rice)
- falafels with hummus
- bean burritos (beef and tvp versions) and mexican rice

tvp = textured vegetable protein

Dessert:
- chocolate fondue with dried fruit
- rice pudding
- apple crisp
- chocolate cake
- fruitcake
- cookies
- Miles' fudge (Sad to say that I've never tried it so I'm counting on Stu's opinion for this one).

Everyone will be responsible for their own drinks (coffee, juice, hot chocolate, etc.), lunch, and snacks (other than appetizers). However, I am taking the liberty to designate the Brits to be in charge of tea for the group.

I know that Stu's schedule said to have the menu planned by July 1st, but realistically we need to decide things a lot sooner in order to get everything cooked and dehydrated in time.

Let me know what you think so we can start cooking up a storm over here!

Thanks,
Laura
